Steven Soderbergh Officially Announces He is Taking a Break from Directing

STEVEN SODERBERGH BREAK (Video) – At the Berlin Film Festival, director Steven Soderbergh announced today, what he has been hinting at for months, that he is taking a break from directing. The keyword is “break” because he didn’t use the word everyone thought he was going to say which is “retire.” He’s currently promoting his latest film Side Effects and at that press conference he talked a little about his break, wanting to have fun making movies, and how he’s changed since making Che.

“Yeah l just like the idea of making a thriller, as I near the twilight of my career. Honestly for however long this break ends up being, I wanted the last few things I did to be fun to make and to watch.” – Steven Soderbergh

(Woman off camera) “Did you just call it a break rather than a retirement?”

SIDE EFFECTS PLOT: A woman turns to prescription medication as a way of handling her anxiety concerning her husband’s upcoming release from prison.
