MGM SUES RAGING BULL 2 – MGM studios is suing Jake LaMotta and the producers of Raging Bull 2 for breach of contract and four other counts. MGM wants production of the independent prequel/sequel shut down, to make sure it’s never released and compensatory damages and punitive and exemplary damages ‘awarded in an amount sufficient to punish the RB II defendants and to deter those who would commit or knowingly seek to profit from similar actions, now or in the future.’
MGM claims that LaMotta didn’t have the right to give the rights to his 1986 sequel book without first offering it to them because of a 1976 agreement in which MGM is the successor-in-interest to any owner-written sequel. MGM’s choice to sue come after many attempts to get the Raging Bull 2 producers and LaMotta to comply with the 1976 agreement.
